What are Compression Garments?
Compression garments are designed for scar treatment and offer benefits such as; preventing excessive scar tissue growth, reducing scar thickness, minimising itching whilst helping to soften and flatten the scar. By applying a consistent pressure, the overall appearance and functionality is improved. This is particularly helpful for post-surgical and burn scars or when the scar is limiting movement or causing discomfort.

Every injury leaves behind marks in particular burns and scalding. Surgical and cosmetic procedures can also produce tight and uncomfortable scars. To prevent an overgrowth of scar tissue, it is helpful to apply external compression as soon as the wounds have healed.

When to Seek Support
-
If you have a scar that is causing pain, discomfort, or limiting your range of motion.
-
After a major surgery where extensive scarring and swelling is expected, (you may need to discuss this with your surgeon prior to booking an appointment, if compression is suitable).
-
If you experience hypersensitivity or discomfort around the scar.
-
If the scars are red, raised and continuing to grow, compression may help reduce this.
