How long will it take for cosmetic surgery scars to heal?

Scar healing timelines vary from person to person. In general, it can take several weeks for an incision to fully close, and up to two years for a scar to reach maturity. Factors such as skin type, genetics, age, nutrition and the type of surgery all play a role. While we can’t give an exact timeline, we will support you in achieving the best possible healing outcome.

Does cosmetic scar treatment hurt?

Scar therapy is designed to be gentle. If your scar is sensitive or painful, treatment is adapted accordingly, and we can work gradually to reduce discomfort and desensitise the area.

How soon after cosmetic surgery can I start scar treatment?

This will depend on your surgeon’s guidance and how your incision has healed. Indirect scar work may begin earlier, with more direct scar treatment usually introduced once the wound is fully closed and stable. If you’re unsure, we’ll help you decide what’s safe. You can book an appointment 6 weeks post-surgery. As long as the scar is fully closed and there are no openings or infections in the scars.

I had cosmetic surgery years ago. Can scar treatment still help?

Yes. We regularly work with scars that are several years old. While older scars may take longer to change, many people still experience improvements in comfort, mobility and scar quality with tailored treatment.
