At HLP Therapy, we regularly run professional scar training courses for healthcare practitioners who want to deepen their knowledge of scar support and hands-on scar treatment techniques.
As part of these courses, we invite members of the public (who have a scar), to take part as scar models.
This page explains exactly what that means, who it may suit, and what to expect, so you can decide whether registering feels right for you.

First, something important to know
These opportunities are not regular appointments, and they are not suitable for urgent care.
Our face-to-face courses run infrequently throughout the year, across the UK and worldwide. Therefore, if you are experiencing pain, restriction, discomfort, or have concerns that need timely support, we strongly recommend booking a standard scar therapy appointment in clinic, with one of our highly skilled HLP Therapy Therapists. Please do not wait in the hope of being selected as a model.
That said, for some people, taking part as a scar model can be a valuable and accessible option when the timing aligns.

What does being a scar model involve?
During our face to face scar courses, assessments and treatments are carried out in front of a small group of healthcare professionals who are attending the training. These professionals can be: Physiotherapists, Massage Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Osteopaths or Midwives.
This means that:
-
Your scar will be seen, discussed, and gently worked on as part of the learning process.
-
Course attendees may touch the scar area while practising techniques, always under close supervision.
-
The session is guided by Hannah Poulton, clinical director at HLP Therapy and experienced scar therapist, with your comfort and consent prioritised throughout.
Although the environment is professional, supportive, and respectful, it is important that you feel comfortable being treated in a group learning setting.
Who might this be suitable for?
You may wish to register if:
-
You have a scar from surgery, injury or accident.
-
Your scar may feel tight, sensitive, restricted, pulls, raised or simply “not quite right”.
-
You have a scar and are curious to learn more about how scars behave and respond to hands-on techniques.
-
You feel comfortable taking part in a supervised teaching environment.
-
Your scar is more than 6 weeks old.
Importantly, scars of any age can be considered, from six weeks post-procedure through to scars that are many years old.
Location Matters
While many of our courses take place at our specialist scar clinic in Leicester, we also run training days across the UK and Worldwide.
For this reason, please clearly state your location when completing the form below. This allows us to contact you if a suitable course is scheduled near you.

A gentle final note
We understand that specialist care is not always financially accessible for everyone. For some people, participating as a scar model can be a meaningful way to receive supported care while contributing to the education of future practitioners.
However, above all else, your wellbeing comes first. If you need timely, personalised support, booking a one-to-one appointment is always the best route.
